As a tour director focusing on adventures to Europe, I am often asked about the safety of travel with concerns about Covid and now a bigger concern is the war in Ukraine. The atrocities happening in Ukraine is something I had hoped never to see. Hopefully, peace can be found without the world order getting completely out of control.

In the past weeks, I have been keeping a close eye on events and reading a lot about how events may affect travel to Europe. Most of the articles focus on eastern European countries that share a border with Ukraine or Russia. It is safe traveling to these countries including Poland with its many refugees.

Of course, we need to keep a close eye on the situation and adjust plans in the event of it becoming a wider war. As noted in the Rick Steve’s blog, ‘it is important to keep geographic realities in mind and remember that war in Ukraine is as far from our European vacation dreams as a war in Guatemala would be from Texas or Florida.’ Currently, I do not see any reason to change tour plans to Germany, the Czech Republic ‘Czechia’ and Austria.

Since 2009, I have been traveling to Europe and experienced an extended trip to Africa. It is important for Americans to travel and learn perspectives from wonderful people throughout the world. We all need to be better engaged citizens and to realize we are all part of a global community.

At this time, we can count our blessings and keep our travel dreams alive. I am looking forward to sharing experiences with groups in August, September, and October 2022. Join us and paint your picture as we explore together.
